Let's build a network of English learners who take the opportunity to practice their conversation skills with each other. Don't worry about picking up other students' mistakes. English learners make mistakes based on whatever their first language is. For example, Russians have a lot of difficulty using the articles because the Russian language doesn't have articles. I wouldn't worry about a Spanish speaker losing the ability to use articles in English because articles are used in Spanish. Spanish speakers have different challenges. Anyway, whatever mistakes my students make, I'm here to give correction.
Self-study in language learning is extremely important. You have to listen a lot and read aloud and study a little grammar and compare it to you own language and so on.
Conversation is special because the situation pushes you to give an automatic response! You have to say something, even if it's "I don't know." or "Would you speak more slowly, please?". You have to "think on your feet" as we say, which mean that you need to have a ready answer or a relevant response to a possibly unexpected question.
So, take the opportunity to talk with other members. You may have a good time! You may make a new friend! When I had a conversation club before, two of my Russian students told each other jokes in English and did lessons together!
Excelent idea Janine, let's do it!
